My goal as a yoga teacher is to assist students in opening the body and calming the mind. Safety is the first priority, it is of utmost importance that students are able to breathe comfortably in each posture. There is no pain and no strain. The first training I took was 200 hours of Hatha Yoga in 2010 which is the foundational practice of all other yogas styles and always suitable for beginners. I am most passionate about Restorative Yoga (restful relaxation), Seniors Yoga (supporting the body to continue to move as we age) and Yin Yoga (finding a deeper connection and release). Also I can customize your own flow in private classes.
Restorative Yoga is a relaxing practice where with props simple postures are held for extended periods of time. By holding these postures the nervous system begins to self regulate, destressing the body and mind. Students leave feeling calm and blissful. Restorative practice is beneficial for everyone and essential for those who suffer from stress, anxiety and insomnia.
Seniors (as well as Stiff Students) Yoga utilizes many variations for all poses to accommodate any body limitations. Hands on assistance for students to get into the most comfortable and supported stretch and strengthening poses. Gentle flowing movements lubricate connective tissues to improve joint flexibility, circulation and ease of movement in the body. I've been teaching this style since 2012 and it is quite amazing to see how quickly flexibility improves in students!
Yin Yoga is a deep, focused practice involving holding stretches for a long period of time in order to release the connective tissues. We learn to stay present with sensation and even discomfort in the body in order to develop our self-awareness and stay calm in all sorts of life circumstances. Yin yoga practice can can open stiff joints, relieve stress and ease pain and muscle tightness.
Other Styles I Teach
Hatha (Beginner/Gentle) Yoga is for everyone! This is a slow paced class with an emphasis on breathe and safety. Easy to understand wording with calmly spoken detailed instructions make this ideal for beginners as well as those who are feeling stressed! New students (yogis) learn proper alignment for yoga postures (asanas) and can receive hand on assistance when required to assure safety of joints. Breathe work and advanced variations offered make this a beautiful practice for experienced students and the slow pacing makes this accessible for stiff students as there is time to prop and adjust the pose as necessary to feel safe in your body. You will be transformed into Warrior postures and back again in the greatest of ease.
Chair Yoga is a seated practice designed for those with less mobility as well as desk workers who'd like to learn exercises they can do 'on the job'. You'll be amazed at how much ease and release you can bring into the body and mind while sitting in a chair. Book a Lunch and Learn session for your office or Seniors Home with me today!
